Whereas it may be customary and normal today to walk barefoot everywhere in certain countries and/or cultures, people in other countries consider it at least a cause for staring at someone doing that. However, one might wish to take a look here, and see that in high cultures and civilizations of the past, bare feet were not seen as a marker of social status, or wealth (or lack thereof), but rather the most practical footwear...
